Class Description
Creative Movement - The Creative Movement class is designed to give 3 - 6 year olds their first exposure to ballet and tap. A combination of 15 minutes of ballet movement, 15 minutes of tap rhythms, and 15 minutes of developmental skills help dancers improve their coordination, rhythm and balance.
Combo - Combo classes are tailored for students of all ages, from Kindergarten through High School. This class groups and develops the fundamental elements of both tap and jazz styles of dance. Combo classes continue to be one of our most popular classes.
Ballet - The study of Ballet involves the enjoyment of movement, expression to music, combined with discipline. Ballet is a highly technical form of dance with an anatomical approach. Ballet features flowing and precise acrobatic movements performed in a deliberate and graceful manner.
Pointe - En pointe (pointe) means "on the tips of the toes" and is a part of classical ballet technique. Pointe technique encompasses both the mechanical and artistic aspects of pointe work. In particular, it is concerned with body alignment, placement of the feet, and the manner in which a dancer transitions to and from en pointe. Students at the intermediate levels of ballet that have attained suitable strength and technique must technically qualify and have instructor approval prior to joining the pointe class.
Jazz - Jazz is a fun dance style that relies heavily on originality and improvisation. Many jazz dancers mix different styles into their dancing, incorporating their own expression. Jazz dancing often uses bold, dramatic body movements, including body isolation and contractions.
Tap - Tap dancing is a stylized form of jazz with sound in which students wear shoes equipped with taps that make a rhythmic sound on the floor. At the developmental level, tap reinforces rhythm concepts. As the students advance, they'll learn increasingly intricate combinations. Tap is experiencing a come back and is enjoyed by all ages!
Modern - Modern dance is a free, expressive style of dance which centers on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing.
Lyrical - Lyrical dance is a style that blends ballet and jazz. Lyrical is generally smoother and a bit faster than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz. A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions such as love, joy and anger. Lyrical dancers usually perform to music with lyrics...the lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for movements and expressions.
Hip Hop - Hip-hop dance refers to social or choreographed street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of the hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles such as breaking, locking, popping and improvisation.
Open Style - Our Open Style class is designed to offer teen age dancers an opportunity to try out styles they would not normally encounter in a traditional studio. From jazz to funk, salsa and modern.
Leaps and Turns - Leaps and Turns class, focuses on the body’s center, from which all movements begin and end, making it possible to maintain balance while executing high extensions and graceful to precise powerful movements. Learning how to correctly spot, enables dancers to improve and maintain balance and control while executing turns such as pirouettes and fouettés, thus reducing the dizzying effect of repeated rotation. This class will give the dancer the advantage of the core strength used when dancers are performing big leaps that look elegant as well as pirouetting across the dance floor with ease and grace.
Core and Strengthen - Improve your technique and performance in all dance forms by strengthening the body's core while improving coordination, balance, alignment and optimizing flexibility. The result is more lift, deeper pliés, higher leaps with less effort, improved extension and turnout.
